Family of Service

PDG Robert M. Libin comes from a family of Lions.  Many people will remember PDG Bob’s Grandfather, Harold J. Kaufmann seconding Bob’s nomination for Vice District Governor in 2003.  Others might remember, Lion Harold and PDG Bob getting their Melvin Jones Fellowships on the same day back in 1995.  Lion Harold was a Charter member of the Rego Park Lions Club from 1949 to his death in 2006.  Harold’s second wife, Eve (Goldkrantz) Kaufmann was a member of the Rego Park-Forest Hills Lions Club till her passing.  Lion Harold served in the US Army during World War II and in the active and reserved combined for over 25 years.  PDG Bob’s Grandmother, Martha M. Kaufmann served in World War II as an Army nurse.  While Martha was not a Lion, she was a big supporter of all of Lion Harold’s and PDG Bob’s Lionistic activities.  The Rego Park – Forest Hills Lions Club even named their annual major service project in her honor, the Martha M. Kaufmann Summer Festival for foster care kids.

PDG Bob’s Mother, Renee S. Libin was involved in Boy Scouting, served on the town council, and Board of Education prior to her death in 1996.

PDG Bob is engaged to Lion Michelle A. Ratliff.  Together they have two children (Amanda and Adam) and three grandchildren (Antonio, Victoria, and Reece).  Amanda and Adam served in the US Army, as well as Amanda’s husband.

Lion Michelle’s father, Roger was involved in Boy Scouting for over 60 years till his passing in 2005.  Michelle’s mother, Carol has been involved with Boy Scouting over 37 years and is a Life member of the VFW.  Both of Michelle’s parents received  the Silver Beaver award and Order of the Arrow (Vigil) for their service.   Michelle’s brother, Mark is an Eagle Scout.

This family really knows what service to others is all about.
